    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Yahoo (New York, NY (US)) in September 2018.

    Interview

It was honestly not bad! Both people I interviewed with were listening and eager to show me the space and all of the perks. The interviews probably lasted an hour total and they got an offer back to me fairly quickly.

    Interview

One of my friends had put my resume in the referral portal and I was contacted by a Manager over the phone to schedule a video interview. Then 5 minutes before the scheduled time I got an email that the interview was being postponed to next week as the engineer who was to take the interview was under the weather. The same thing happened twice and my interview was never conducted and the manager stopped replying to my emails.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Yahoo (New York, NY (US)) in August 2018.

    Interview

    This was for Yahoo Finance.

Applied online. Was contacted directly by the the Dev manager. Did a video phone screen on something like colabedit. Came in for an interview.

They gave me about 3 hours to code up an app, then they gave me an algorithm test, then one that was a little more behavioral, and finally an app design session.

The food was good, and their office seems pretty nice, although they were recently acquired by Oath/Verizon. It seemed a little empty. Kinda cool to see all the Aol stuff and brands I recognize all in the same office.

Edited: Originally I posted that there was no follow up. I received a response about a couple weeks after the interview letting me know that they were looking for someone more senior.

Still not sure where I went wrong. I think I did pretty well on the app test and the algorithm question, so maybe they just did not feel that it was a strong culture fit.

There is an option to do a presentation instead of the 1:1 interview sessions. If you have a personal project or are an expert on a topic they will encourage you to present.

    Front End Development Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Los Angeles, CA (US)

    Positive Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Yahoo (Los Angeles, CA (US)) in August 2018.

    Interview

A hiring recruiter from Oath reached out to me on LinkedIn. I followed up a few days after to see how it was going. No answer. In fact another hiring recruiter was the one who reached out to me 3-4 weeks after about scheduling a phone screen interview.

I did enjoy my phone screen interview however. The front end dev who was interviewing me was very kind, funny, and easy to talk to. It was if I was speaking to a friend. I thought I did fairly well. Unfortunately, I didn't make it to the on-site round.

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Yahoo (Burbank, CA (US)).

    Interview

It’s a multi-level interview with at least 3 different people separately within the same day. It takes a few hours so it’s hard to keep your stamina. You interview with different people that work with the visual designer, the team, the developers, etc.

    Senior Software Engineer Interview

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Yahoo (Sunnyvale, CA (US)) in May 2018.

    Interview

I was referred to this an opening and the hiring recruiter reached out to me. I had 2 phone screens and then invited for the onsite interview. Onsite interview lasted for 5 hours (5 rounds). Few days after the interview hiring recruiter contacted me and was told that i did well and the team liked me and they would like to offer me the position. I was asked not to accept any other offers. I was told that they would submit it for an hiring committee review. I was told that there should be no issue with the hiring committee as the team liked me and it was just a nominal process. I did not hear back from them for few weeks. I followed up with them and was told that it is still in the review. Few weeks later i again reached out to them and was told that the position is filled and they are trying to open a new position for me so that they could submit to the hiring committee. I did not hear back from them and it has been 3 weeks. I tried reaching out to the hiring recruiter but they are not responding to my emails. It was really a bad experience.

Worst company to interview for... do not join..

Had a phone interview. Basic algorithms and binary trees.
Had an on-site. Recruiter didn't give me good information about the on-site process and suprised me with a totally different schedule than planned. They hadn't even paid for my hotel and I had to pay it myself, but more on that later.
On-site was fine. Interviewers were polite. My recruiter was laid off one day before my interview and replacement recruiter was very incompetent. Full disclosure, I did not get the job.

So the money I paid for the hotel was supposed to be reimbursed and recruiter said he would reimburse me. We went back and forth over a few months with Soo many emails and calls and he had only refunded me like 50% of the value ( like why would you issue in increments?) . 7months since my interview and I still hadn't received my refund and I gave up on the recruiter and asked him to cc his manager. He said he would issue the refund and two days later, he left the company too and nobody picked up my issue?!? Zero accountability....
Like c'mon man.. is this a sinking ship ? I reached out to many Yahoo(now Oath) recruiters on LinkedIn and only one of them replied (after two weeks). She was able to get my remaining amount reimbursed after I forwarded my email chain with 25+ emails and explaining my helplessness.
Do not interview for company. I don't think it's ever reasonable to have interviewees beg for their money and beg for 7months?!? Needless to say, this has been my Worst post-interview experience ever.

I wanted to share my experience to alert potential employees to the shady recruiters who have the worst accountability. If recruiters themselves are so bad, you can imagine the company and it's culture.
