Human Resources - Complete Shambles! Interview

      23 Oct 2019

      Application

The process took 1 day. I interviewed at WCG in Oct 2019

      Interview

Applied for the role of HR Administrator as I was keen to take my first step into the HR field. The job advert highlighted the support that would be offered in this role. The salary is very poor at just £16k salary not going much higher than £17k but I felt this was the compromise if comprehensive support would be provided in the role. During my interview, I did feel that I answered each question fully and with relevant answers. There was a lot of head nodding, rapport and empathising with my reasons for wanting to join the HR field. I waited nearly 3 weeks for a response . I was told that they would make their decision 2 days after my interview but that I would hear a lot sooner. That gave the impression that I got the job. They also talked about how I could use the case work in the role for a CIPD course alongside the job. They also mentioned how I could use the side entrance reserved for staff next time I visited. I felt these comments were very cruel as they gave the impression I would get the job. I was told that due to a staff illness, interviews had to be rescheduled for the week after. That week passed and I still did not hear anything. Eventually, I got a response and was told there was one more interview remaining and I would receive feedback once that was completed. I did receive this email that I was waiting 3 weeks for but to my surprise it was a generic email telling me that I did not get the job. There was no constructive feedback given. Considering I have been waiting 3 weeks to be told I did not get the job, I did expect proper feedback to be given. When I replied to the e-mail, she informed me that she’s rushing out of the office and will be on annual leave after that so can’t give me any feedback?! I found this to be very unprofessional and rude. She said she would provide feedback once she has completed it but didn’t even bother. I cannot think of any reason why I did not get the job as my interview went very well and I got positive reassurance from the 3 Interviewers. The only reason I can think of is that I am of an ethnic minority background and every staff member that I came across at the college was white. I will not be recommending this college to potential staff or students. It makes sense why the role was already vacant during the interview > Poor Management!
