      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at USLI

      Interview

First was a phone interview with the hiring manager, which was pretty casual, for me to get to know the job and for them to get to know me. Then a few 1:1 virtual interviews with different people. Some asked structured questions, some were more like chatting, depending on their style. Then caliper assessment. Then more 1:1 interviews with people of a higher level, also opportuniy for me to ask questions. Then they asked for three references. All my references confirmed that USLI called them. Then it was the job offer. I liked the job and the training opportunity, benefits were ok. I got another offer at the same time with slightly higher pay and remote opportunity. And also for some other reasons, I decided to pick the other one. It was not an easy decision.

      Question 1

      All were typical interview questions.
      Answer question

      Interview

I first completed a phone screening with a recruiter. The conversation was mostly focused on my background, interest in the role, and why I wanted to work at USLI. The recruiter also explained the company culture and gave an overview of the next steps in the hiring process. The interview was professional and conversational overall, with a mix of resume-based and behavioral questions. The process seemed organized, and communication was clear after the screening.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at USLI

      Interview

The interview process is very tedious for a job that seems to not take very much skill. There is an initial 2+ hour interview with three, 45 minute sessions with anywhere from 1-2 “assistant VPs” (in reality they are just team leads) at a time. They then require you to take a 100 question caliper test to see if you are cultural fit and to test your work ethic. They then have you do another 45 minute interview with a product head. After, they will immediately ask you to come in and meet the person you just interviewed with and give no indication of how formal this in person meeting is. When originally asked they told me I was going to meet in person with the 2nd interviewer and I was told it was business casual. There they showed me around the campus and ran me through a sample insurance application. I was told this in person meeting when I arrived was to “have you underwrite us as well” and to ask questions. I was then told to compile three references and send by EOD that say. I sent the thank you note with references in less than two hours after the meeting was over. The next day, I got a call saying I was rejected for reasons that had nothing to do with my credentials or experience but rather because I did not bring a note pad to take notes while they showed me the campus and processes, I did not send thank you emails immediately after interviews were over, and because I asked questions regarding benefits during the in person meeting where I was told to “underwrite USLI”. All in all USLI does not have a formal HR department so the interview process is tedious and heavily subjective. If you do not meet the exact expectations of the interviewers do not expect to be hired. PTO starts at 10 days which is below any standard corporate company which isn’t worth your time.

      Question 1

How did you wind up at your last company? Give me a time when you experienced a hardship? A lot of very resume specific questions.
