Getting a technical job in the Air Force is really not that hard if you have circumstances that support your potential to do well in such a role. For one thing, your recruiter will require you to take a test called the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) which is used to gauge how well you can perform in the areas of Math and English. But you can discover or purchase study guides that can help you prepare for this test. Having a few courses under your belt from a college or university can also help you land a decent job in the Air Force. With a few years of college and some pretty hefty ASVAB scores, my recruiter promised me a job in the electronics field. It wasn't until I was just about to graduate basic training that my drill master announced that I would be leaving for technical school to learn how to Satellite and Wideband Communications Technician.

Visit a recruiter. qualify academicly with the ASVAB. the higher you score on the ASVAB the more options you have of available jobs. Meet physical fitness requirements. Go through medical exams at MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station). Depending on what job or job category you choose depends on when you leave for basic training. All of this took place for me in 2009. I am now coming to the end of my 6 year contract.
