      ECommerce Product Management (Services Interview

      3 Oct 2011
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Hoffman Estates, IL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Sears (Hoffman Estates, IL) in Feb 2010

      Interview

I was recommended by one VP, in another division that didn't have any jobs available, to a VP in another division. The HR rep scheduled a series of one-on-one interviews with upper level management at Headquarters, from 8 am to noon. I was asked to fill out on online application. Their online application system is horrible. The first time I tried to fill it out, it timed me out and since it doesn't ask you to register and create an account, I had to start all over again! No information had been saved. This happened a number of times. The online application was ridiculously long. I eventually kept the answers in a Word page doc to "hurry up" the process so that I wouldn't get timed out. The day of the interview, for the most part, was pretty good. Most of the people I interviewed with were very honest about the job - very frustrating, long hours, micromanagement, never enough resources, no support, etc. I appreciated that they were warning me about what I would be getting in to, but I was unemployed and I didn't care. Then the person who was supposed to interview me from 10:30 to 11:15 didn't show up, so I just sat in the conference room and waited. The VP that I would have reported to was last and was scheduled from 11:15 to 12:00. He showed up, said he had a few phone calls to make, and stood outside of the conference room making phone calls. When he did interview me, he had a lot of open-ended questions, but they were definitely leading questions. When I provided any solutions that were customer-centric, he literally scoffed. Then he said, "Oh, you don't mind if I keep you past 12 do you?" Again, unemployed, so I said, "No." He also admitted that he hadn't read my resume, and didn't have a copy with him. I didn't have a copy either... I'd never had to give one to an interviewer, they always have it in front of them, with questions already written down. He chastised me for not having a copy of my resume. I didn't chastise him for not taking the time to prepare for an interview... He then said normally he would have read my resume, because he would have been the one to determine if I was qualified, not a VP from another division... So apparently I didn't have a chance and my day had been wasted.
