I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program (Brunswick, ME) in Feb 2014
Interview
They start with a 30-minute interview with two staff members, generally from Operations and Development. Most of the interview is pretty standard- tell us about you, why you want to work here, where do you see yourself in five years, etc. They do make clear that the job is difficult and that you may be faced with personally challenging situations, which is good. Overall, not a difficult interview; they'll grill you, but they won't exhaust you.
