No formal interview, just review of portfolio. After the initial review, I was asked to do an exercise similar to what I ended up doing in the role. They provided me with a short story and asked me to create a list of themes and write about them.
I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at LitCharts in Sept 2022
Interview
It was quite a quick experience since the recruiter was awful. He would not provide detailed steps in the process nor the salary range for the position. I think this is illegal in some states. I didn't want to spend 5+ hours interviewing for a position that I didn't even know would even pay a fair market rate. Terrible experience for devs and I hope the team is aware of how many candidates this recruiter is deterring from the process with his slimy techniques.
It was very straightforward--I had a phone conversation with a member of the management team. I also sent in some examples of my writing and literary criticism, both written during my graduate work in English.
