      Management Trainee Interview

      17 Jul 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Newington, CT
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Ignited (Newington, CT) in Jul 2025

      Interview

After applying/ if you’re selected to move to the next step, a recruiter calls to set up a virtual interview- it is a group interview (this is not a problem in and of itself- unfortunately they don’t tell you this and you find out when you log on to the chat). The interviewer gave a pitch about the company and then asked for a volunteer to start answering questions. The questions were “tell me about yourself” and “what are your core leadership values”. After passing this interview, they set up a secondary in-person interview, during which the interviewer gave the exact same pitch from the first interview and then again asked me to tell them about myself (so, I did). The girl interviewing me was extremely professional for her age (18). She’d been with the company for 6 months. After I broke down my experience and “profile” if you will, she seemed a little confused and asked “but what do you like to do for fun?”. There were several managers milling around the office and it was a little confusing as to why they weren’t at least somewhat involved in the process. Also, the interview started 20 minutes late (which no one acknowledged), and I had trouble finding the office and made 5 calls to their front desk which went unanswered. So. In explaining the job to me, the interviewer kept referring to the “$400 bonus” you get for your first two weeks. I asked her what the base pay was, and she kept repeating that there’s a $400 bonus for the first…two weeks. I thought to ask her “Is $400 the total compensation for the first two weeks?”- -yes, it is. The expected hours for the first two weeks are 25/wk, which equals out to a wage of…$8.00 an hour. That is less than half of the minimum wage for the state of Connecticut. I pointed this out, and she assured me that “we will make sure you get some sales and make more than that”. Another funny thing- I wasn’t sure what they meant when they said (during the virtual interview) “the day starts from 8-9”- I thought maybe they had a flexible in-time? I wasn’t sure. What they actually mean is, you are required to report to the office for a mandatory SOS huddle/pitch meeting from 8-9. THEN you go home until (10AM and work until 3), OR you go home until 3PM and work until 8. She asked if this would work for me and I said absolutely not. She assured me they’d be able to give me the 10-3 shift because of my commute. I briefly imagined myself hanging out at the local cumbys every workday for the foreseeable future so that they could save ($8.00, or, $16.75). I received a follow up call after the interview from one of the branch managers, who offered me the job. I was very transparent about some of the aforementioned concerns, diplomatically expressed I thought it was pretty misleading to frame the ($400) as a “bonus”, asked about hourly compensation and we danced around an actual answer. I believe, in order to legally get away with not paying employees a minimum wage, they need to be classified as contractors of sorts, which really adds to the vibe of “is this a MLM?”. Everyone I met seemed like a nice person but I really can’t say anything else positive about the experience.
