I applied online. The process took 6 months. I interviewed at GitLab
Interview
I applied to GitLab on Wed, Aug 10 2022. The process was still ongoing on Jan 26 2023. First of all, I would point out that their hand book is amazing. If their employees would only follow it, it would make the interview process a real pleasure. The first round is a simple call with the recruiter from GitLab, talking about my background and about the position. The recruiter call was very pleasant. I was excited about the position and I was looking forward to the next round. Before the second round I was asked to do a code review. I would then be asked to show my answers, explain them and code whatever improvements they would ask me to add to the Pull Request on a call schedule a week later that would be the official second round. On the day of that second round I got ready and opened the zoom link. I waited 15min past the interview time and the interviewer was still not there. I wrote an email to the recruiter, no reply. I then wrote an email to the interviewer and right away I got an email saying that she had an "personal emergency" and could not come. I then was rescheduled with someone else a week later and had to redo all the code review as they told me it was attached to the interviewer. At the interview the person was obviously reading from the handbook but I didn't mind much. It was still a pleasant interview. The interview was difficult and very much in detail but it went well and he said that if I didn't receive a follow up within five days to reach out to the recruiter. Five days later, I reached out to the recruiter. No answers. Two weeks later I reached out again. No answers. After one more week without news I write to the interviewer who tells me that he will ask for a follow up. Three days later, the recruiter, without apologies, tells me that she was first sick and then on vacation. In any case, I passed that second round and the recruiter told me that I would receive an email to schedule the third round for the final behavioural interview. A week later, I have nothing. I wrote to the recruiter and another week later, still nothing. At this point, I'm not convinced that I want this job anymore, the interview process at GitLab is the worst I have ever seen anywhere I have interviewed in my career. I would advise to interview elsewhere unless you're armed with a lot of time and a lot of patience.
