      Middle Java Developer Interview

      13 Nov 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Gentrack (London, England) in Sept 2025

      Interview

The interview process was short, an online assessment test on TestDome with very simple questions, and it felt like more of a first job position, not a mid-level one. Then had the in-person 2-hour interview, first part was with managers, second part was simple coding, debugging, and fixing code. The coding part felt odd, the developer was very uninterested, my best guess managers already decided not to move forward with me and didn't want to fully say it. Based on interview experience, clearly being an entry-level job but requiring 3+ years of experience is sickening. The last part was a brief discussion with HR. They promised to provide feedback within 48 hours. After receiving no feedback for over a week, I wrote to them, and they reported that the feedback so far has been very positive. They want to interview everyone before making a decision. 4 weeks after the interview, I got a template rejection, with no feedback at all, not that it's needed, simply they aren't looking. Asked for at least 50k, wouldn't have accepted the offer. It doesn't look like a great workplace to work in or grow as a developer; it's a dead-end workplace in my eyes. Insulting that they waste the time of people with 3+ years of experience to fill entry-level positions. My advice is to hire someone straight out of university who is highly motivated and competent for their needs, because any experienced developer won't find fulfillment in such a weak environment. London, October 2026.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

TestDome: The gas price increased by 15% to 3.91 per gallon. What was the gas price before the increase? In person with managers: Division and multiplication on white board. With developer: read csv file, accumulate all the prices, find average price, biggest price ect.
