      Manager Development Program Interview

      17 Jul 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at GEICO

      Interview

Started with a phone call, lasted about 30 minutes and basically provided information on the position and asked why Geico? He also asked a little bit about leadership experience and classes taken at school. I was then sent the online Caliper assignment, which I did not pass. I was surprised because I graduated from a school ranked in the top 1% of universities in the world, studied business, and had leadership and management experience. I did not move forward in the program interview after not passing the Caliper test. I would recommend taking a look online at what kind of answers companies look for before doing the test. The interviewer was kind and professional.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at GEICO in Feb 2015

      Interview

The interview took approximately 8 hours in total, spanning over two days. First I took a test to demonstrate my ability to learn quickly and type up what I hear or read. After that was a basic personality test. I sat down with a hiring manager who gave me a pretty standard interview. He asked me about my experience and what I bring to the table. It was rather conversational though. I was then left to stew for a while. I filled this time by making friends with the secretary and whoever happened to walk into the office. This served me well later on in the process and helped me keep calm. I was then given managerial personality/skills testing. After about 20 minutes, I was brought to a room where I was given a 20 page booklet containing information about a fake company. I was given a half hour to learn the company's policies and they gave me writing materials and post-its to take notes. The hiring manager was very accommodating and spent 5 minutes running around to get me a blue highlighter when I requested one. He then called 3 times as a fake customer. I realized that they are not looking at how quickly i learn the info but how well I handle the customer's request. After this I was sent home and came back the next day to shadow a customer service rep and interview with a manager who works with MDPs. I didn't do well in the interview. In many ways, it was the same questions but he wanted me to have come in with many more questions than I had prepared. I also was burned out on the previous day's 4 hour interview process. I left knowing I didn't get into the manager development program. I got a call from the secretary an hour after I got home letting me know that I had been offered a job as a customer service rep, which I accepted enthusiastically. After that, I had the normal paperwork plus a drug test. It took probably 3 weeks to start training though, which was highly frustrating. So even once you have the job, it might take a little while before you start because they hire in classes.
