      Front End Engineer Interview

      22 Sept 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Menlo Park, CA
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at DoorDash (Menlo Park, CA)

      Interview

      0. Chat with recruiter. All good. 1. For take home project I was given a complete server setup and design mocks and asked to implement fronted. Well this is just a dream come true. After years of working mostly on existing apps and staring at somebody else's code asking why - this was amazing . You get to pick your frameworks, architecture, try out new redux middleware. I totally enjoyed it. It does take time though. 2. Project walk through over the phone. I got to talk about why I chose the components structure I choose and what +\- I see with different approaches. 3. Onsite has 4 or 5 interviews. Most technical questions were related to the take home project. And if you had done this project yourself that's probably is pretty easy to add a feature or a test. Overall I feel like onsite was rather easy compared to the other companies I talked to in the Bay Area. Their office space is beautiful!

      Front End Engineer Interview

      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at DoorDash (New York, NY) in Mar 2019

      Interview

Probably one of the worst hiring processes I've ever been through in my ~10 years as an engineer. Sent a (non trivial) take home assignment to build a messaging app. After a video call to go over my code for the app, the onsite consisted of a very contrived system design round, "engineering values" round, and then adding a feature to the take home. All interviewers' time in the industry could be better measured in months, not years. The last interview of the day was cancelled, and mentioned they wanted to find a time to do it via video conference at my convenience. Instead of responding to attempts to try and schedule it in the following days, there was radio silence until the DoorDash recruiter had no issue finding a time to let me know about a rejection... I guess one of their "engineering values" doesn't include respecting candidates time 🤷‍♂️
