      Devops Interview

      15 Jul 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Compuco in Jun 2017

      Interview

Applying, then automated email with tasks to be completed. Then some days for it to be reviewed, a first interview with a tech lead, then with the Director, Jamie Novick. Overall I wouldn't recommend this company, because they want to pay you the same amount a company pays you in your country, but without any benefit or paid leave (sick days or vacations). So it is not a good trade off. Basically you are a freelance, but tied full time to the company. You got sick? You lost the day pay. Want vacations? No problem, but subtract those days from the bill. Assume they charge 90 pounds per hour for your job, and they pay you 90 pounds per day (9 hours, 9:30 to 18:30), when a contractor in the UK for this specific role, is about 300 to 400 pounds per day. Be careful when choosing, if you have an accident where you cannot work, you are lost. This would have been a perfect job for me if they would offer me PTO (sick days and vacations) because the tasks are really fun and challenging. I'm very sorry that they want to hire that way. If I'm looking for a job in another country, is to at least earn 50% of what a national would earn, so it is a win win relation. Get better at these things and company will be great.

Hi There, Thank you for the feedback. We make the salary offer and budget for a role clear within both on the job advertisement and during communications with our team on any role. If people do not feel the rate is a suitable return for them then we would ask them not to apply! The budget for the devops role I believe was up to £45k which is an applicable salary for the UK as well as elsewhere. We always ask a candidate what they are looking to earn during the later stages and do our best to try and reach that level. Unfortunately, as a startup, working primarily with Non profit and Charitable organisations our budgets are not necessarily as high as some other bigger companies (we certainly could not afford £400 per day!) but we do our best to beat the best local rates for remote roles. As such whilst we understand that someones primary motivations for their role may be financial, we may not be the right role for someone if that is the case as there may be better paid positions out there. On the other hand, we want people who want to be part of a great committed team who work extremely hard building open source solutions for non profit organisations around the world. Our standard contracts are 8h per day, and 5 days a week full time and as mentioned above do not include paid holidays as standard as for tax purposes they must be seen as contractor and not employee relationships. We explain this to applicants and always agree a rate that takes this into account. It would have been great to have received your feedback directly to us at workforus@compucorp.co.uk such that we could have discussed it in person but wish you good luck in your search.

A scam. They just list jobs and elaborate 'tests' that are no more then "production ready" complex automations.. Exact words from Compucorp: "We are extremely fortunate in that we receive a vast number of applications on a daily basis from competent and qualified candidates. This is brilliant for us, however it also presents a challenge for our team who have to select one person from a group of capable applicants " Very brilliant, you get work done for free.. abusing of candidates and developers. I already saw that for developers they also expect same kind of "task", production ready, high complexity entire modules.. Most interesting thing is, 30 days ago.. they list a DevOps position.. they got soooo many applications.. that 30 days later they put a new listing for DevOps.. but till now .. nobody got hired? what happened with the "vast" amount of submissions.. nobody capable ?.. You just uncover your fraud, shame.. and yes i agree with the other review.. you work with non profit, but spend thousand dollars in proprietary software like Ansible ??
