    NONE Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Belmont, WA (US)
    Declined Offer
    Positive Experience
    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Bunnings Warehouse (Belmont, WA (US)) in March 2011.

    Interview

I applied for a job at a new store and was given a phone interview, the guy asked me a few questions along the lines of "What skills or hobbies do you have that you feel will be of use in an area at Bunnings?" so basically if you enjoy woodwork or something you'd mention that or if you grow plants you might be suited to the horticulture section you could also say you love socializing I suppose which would make you well suited to talk to customers or work the registers. He also asked "Why do you want to work at bunnings?" and "why do you think you are right for the job?" and he also asked when I'm available and if I have any other jobs. Keep in mind they did say they would record answers, I assume they would come up in the one on one interviews so you'd best remember your answers, I never made it that far because I cancelled my group interview because I was offered another job before it happened :)

    Interview Questions

    • Probably when he asked what hobbies or skills do I have that could be applied to an area of the store, once the interview was over I thought of a lot more than the one example I gave but it was obviously enough to get me through to the group interview so I'm pleased.   1 Answer

    Casual Team Member Interview

Anonymous Employee in Perth, Western Australia (Australia)
    Accepted Offer
    Positive Experience
    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Bunnings Warehouse (Perth, Western Australia (Australia)).

    Interview

I applied online (did a basic skills quiz and passed) and after a few weeks I received a phone call and was asked to do a quick phone interview (took about 10 minutes). I was asked standard questions about previous experience, why Bunnings etc and was then told I could move onto the group interview stage.

When I got to the group interview, there was about 12 of us and we all just had to wait in the lunch room until the interviewers were ready for us. We then were moved off to another room, mostly for their training and interviews I guess. There were about 5 workers (some managers etc). One manager was like the main dude, asking all the questions, others mainly took notes. They first introduced themselves, telling us about their experience and how long they've worked for Bunnings. We then had to stand up and say a minute introduction to ourselves (saying who we are, why Bunnings, previous experience). After that, we had to watch a video showing good and bad customer service and we went around saying two things we found in the video. Then it was onto creating and selling a product. This is probably the main focus of the interview, basically seeing how well you can work with others. We were given a box of craft supplies and had to make a product to be sold in Bunnings. This was a chance for us to interact with others, becoming leaders and listening to other ideas. We then presented to the rest of the groups and that was basically it.

A few days later I heard back from the manager saying that I was going to the one-on-one interview stage. This was basically with the manager and another worker. They first asked about my experience and then depending on what I said was which booklet of questions they would ask from. I had little to no experience so I had questions relating to my volunteer work and school commitments. They asked my favourite and least favourite parts of my volunteer work. They asked about times when I had shown leadership etc. They also asked about previous awards I had been given.

About a week later I heard back and was invited to have coffee with the boss. I came and was invited back into the interview room, there was the boss and another lady (second in charge). They again asked about my previous experience and which department I would like to work in. It was more of a friendly chat, by this stage it was them just ensuring that you were definitely right for the job (but don't take this as certainly having the job).

Then another week later I received a call saying I got the job. The interview process is quite long but it's very laid back and they just want you to show your real personality and your talents. I wore my school uniform to most of the interviews but in my group and basically just wore black and white striped dress pants and a red long sleeve top (smart casual). Just make sure you're early to your interviews, be positive and make sure you show that you have a good attitude as that's what they're looking for. If you don't get the job, don't stress. the Bunnings I applied for had over 300 applicants, 60 were chosen for groups, then it was cut to 25 for one-on-ones, then 15 for coffee with the boss. It also depends on the store and time of year.
