      Application

      I interviewed at Brad's Deals

      Interview

Actually pretty easy. Just a simple coding challenge and some medium to easy interview questions. There was one logic problem but it was very tame compared to what I've faced before.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Brad's Deals (Chicago, IL) in Apr 2019

      Interview

The process consisted of a phone screening, panel interviews and a personality/IQ test. No technical interview - that was kind of different, made it seem they are not results oriented. My experience with Brad's Deals was super weird. They did not leave a good impression, mainly because the person that I was in contact with made me feel that I didn't "matter" throughout the process, due to the way I was communicated with. I would wait very long to get a response and e-mail communication was sparse. I was invited for an interview with 8 people! (We all know that 3 to 4 is enough to make a decision... "Is this a personality contest?"). There was only one female PM that I spoke to, all engineers were male. The personal I was supposed to meet when I came into the building was not there... there was no receptionist either, I waited 10 minutes for someone to approach me (most of that time in front of a glass door in the hallway... "No one is waiting for me?"). I had 3 - 30 min interviews with one person on-site and one remote, those conversations were very pleasant (they have a laid back, friendly team - so probably working there isn't the worst - I think the problem is with upper management...) The person that was supposed to present me with the test was not there, so I was told to take a test on my phone. 2 weird not very impactful personality questions and a 12 min 20 question IQ test, that checks how you think under pressure. While taking the test I was interrupted by the person "in charge" because they thought I was done. They sat outside in their jacket (like they ran from somewhere outside and were sipping on a fizzy drink...). I felt rushed and when they came in for the interview they were still in their jacket, sat sideways with their front away from me and rarely made eye contact, to me that meant they were not interested, biggest red flag. We talked on a high level how we would solve X company's business problem. I didn't fully grasp what they were looking for. I sent a thank you e-mail and waited to see what happens. Nothing happened, I got ghosted. This company is for people that don't care about professionalism. I don't think this wonky hiring process works in the favor of growth. "Are they just hanging out there all the time?"

Hi there. I want to sincerely thank you for taking the time to leave this review. Please accept my apologies that this interview did not go the way you expected. It does not live up to how we want our interviews to go either. In light of this, we are reviewing how we handle recruiting for this role and are making changes to make it more communicative and timely. Best of luck to you in your search and thank you for taking time to meet with us and provide us with feedback to get better. Once again, my apologies.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Brad's Deals (Chicago, IL) in Apr 2015

      Interview

The initial interview was with HR, and this was followed by a talk with the engineering VP and some team leads. This led to a day of actually working with the team. I appreciated the chance to work with the team and felt this was a much better experience than being put in a conference room and grilled all day. The result was that I felt that I had a better sense for what it is like to work at Brad's Deals than the usual tech company interview process.

      Question 1

Given this application is written using framework [name], and we want to make change [description of change], where would you go in the code base to make the appropriate changes?
