I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Best Buy (Olathe, KS) in Apr 2010

      Interview

I applied online for Best Buy Mobile sales and was contacted about a week later to some in for an interview. When I arrived, the Mobile manager was extremely professional and asked several situational questions. I was told I would get a call back if i was selected. a week and a half later, I was called to set up an interview with the store manager a few days later. This interview was more about getting to know the candidate. She told me that i should definitely expect to receive an offer, but she didn't know for sure what department she wanted me in. She wanted to talk to some of the other managers and get back to me. Two weeks later I received a call to come in and sign a job offer, take a drug test, and background check. The manager came out and literally said, "Here, read these, go here for the test, this is what you'll be making, now sign here and we'll call you." The offer was for computer sales, which wasn't exactly what I had applied for, but sounded ok. $9.75 per hour. I'm sure I got some kind of experience credit. I think they start around $7.50-8 per hour usually for the high school kids. A week later I called to check on the status and they said someone would call to set up orientation soon and that I had passed everything. Another week and a half passed and I finally got a call late in the evening asking if I could come in the next morning for the first day of orientation. I did and it was only 3 hours of videos and paperwork. They said they would call me to set up the 2nd day the next day. A Week later I called them and they rudely told me that the person that did my 1st day would not be doing the 2nd day after all and that they would call me sometime to set it up when they knew when it would be. Another week later I go a call to come in the next afternoon again. This was more videos. 5 days later I had my first day on the floor training. Over all this was probably the most unorganized hiring process I've ever seen. Several times I was given the excuse that I had fallen through the cracks. That's not very comforting when I need a paycheck and I was hired for a month before I actually started. The e-training is good, but the floor training is kind of corny with their TRUST sales model which pretty much means do it your own way but thank them before and after. Everyone in the store is sarcastic and act like they hate each other, but it's all in good fun, usually...

      Interview

They ask you a bunch of "Name a time you were put in a leadership position and a problem you faced and how you overcame it" Just think on highschool or sports or make something up. As long as you're well spoken and can put together some coherent sentences you're good.

I applied online. I interviewed at Best Buy (Federal Way, WA)

      Interview

AftThere were 3 interviews - on the phone, with store manager, and general manager. The phone interview just a screening with one of their office leads. This was just to get a feel for what kind of person you are and know about your past experience. I got an interview scheduled for the next day and it was pretty simple. Discussed work history again and did some behavioral type questions. They informed whether or not they were going to push you to the third interview, and I was pushed along. When I told the GM that I wanted to work in the computer department he was hesitant because he had standards on who he wanted in that department - he wanted people who knew their stuff. I, however, convinced him I would be good for the role and he decided to hire me. He sent me information for where to take the drug test and I would come back in for further paperwork pending the results. A week or so past and I hadn't heard anything from them. I called them and I was told they totally forgot about me. They told me to come in to sign paperwork to complete the process. Definitely be persistent if you're wanting a job here. I had to also call in multiple times to see if they got my application.
