      Sr. Manager IT Interview

      14 Nov 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Boston, MA
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Axon (Boston, MA) in Oct 2024

      Interview

Standard answer - applied online, contacted by HR staffer, discussed the semantics, then passed to hiring manager. Next, interviewed with panel involving two departmental staffers. After that, same old, same old - forgotten and ghosted. If this is how you like to be treated, go ahead and waste your time. In addition, low salary offering, and there are controversies widely known about this outfit (I have to redact everything because this service removes reviews - even if the information is publicly available. Search the CEO's name and the word "controversy," it's all out there). hiring manager was a bit arrogant, but to his credit, he was candid in reporting the former CIO left after one year due to "frustration" with company culture. Individual also stated that company is "not that mature" about project management, but "getting better." I was pleased to have a candid conversation that wasn't all toxic positivity. The hiring manager worked from home in another city and showed up wearing a sweatshirt in a poorly lit room. I would have at least made a bit more of an effort given you are recruiting and putting company norms on display. Afterwards, the process droned on for weeks and weeks, until they just gave up and left me hanging. Then, the inevitable rejection letter came, likely because the peer interviewer in the final panel asked me what "corporate value" I thought was most important, and I didn't read, nor will I ever read, corporate values, as they smack of cult-like indoctrination in any organization. I just blurted out "public safety" and was quickly told that's not a corporate value. It was over at the moment is what I surmise. Either way, I don't like authoritarian, bro-culture companies anyway, and that's what life at Axon appears to be like.
