I applied online. I interviewed at Ames Research Laboratories (Salem, OR) in Oct 2018
Interview
I received a phone call on a Thursday afternoon and set up an in-person interview for the following morning. This interview was the most unprofessional and inappropriate interview I have experienced.
I was interviewed by the owner of the company, not by anyone in the marketing or sales department (this interview was for a marketing position). He only asked two or three questions about my experience and qualifications. While responding to these questions, he interrupted me and tried to finish what I was saying for me.
What made this the worst interview that I have experienced were the many illegal and inappropriate questions. I was asked by the owner of the company about my religion, if I currently attend church, my age, my marital status, whether or not I have children, whether or not I plan to have more children, my spouse's profession, and my parents and their professions. He also commented on my physical appearance.
He asked twice if I belonged to a certain religion. The first time he asked was within one minute of meeting him. The second time was towards the end of the 30-minute interview.
The owner spoke about his political and religious views, as well as mentioned twice that he wants his religion's text in public schools. He told me that one of his ancestors wrote the first amendment to the Constitution and that its the most important amendment.
He spoke negatively about the industry in which I currently work and the customers I serve.
I indicated in this Glassdoor review that I did not receive a job offer, but the company has not finished their interviewing process yet so I am unsure if I will receive an offer or not. If offered a job, I will not accept. This is partially due to the inappropriate questions but also to aspects of the position and company that I learned about in the interview.
