      Inventory Associate Interview

      18 Oct 2011
      Anonymous employee
      New York, NY
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at American Apparel (New York, NY) in Oct 2011

      Interview

I received a phone call on a Thursday morning being asked if I could come in that same day. Because of the short notice I told them that I was unable to, so I was asked if I could come in the next day (which I replied with yes) and that she would call me later on during the day. I received a second phone call around 8 p.m. and I was scheduled to come in for an interview the next day in the afternoon. The woman I spoke with didn't tell me which store I was supposed to go to, so I had to look up the phone number online and find out the location. The next day, I went in wearing a pair of dark jeans, a long sleeved button up shirt from Express and a cardigan that was from American Apparel, along with brown laced up shoes. The interview itself was fairly quick, I was simply asked if I was currently attending school, why I wanted the position, what were my duties at my last job, and my availability. She informed me that I would start off as Seasonal but that it does not mean that I will be automatically let go, but that the permanent position will depend on how well I perform. She asked if I had any identification on me (they need your social security and your passport/driver's license) but of course I didn't have it on me, so I had to come back in the day after to hand them in, finish up some paperwork, and then wait for a phone call to tell me when I start. Overall, it was pretty easy. Nothing stressful, you do not have to wear their clothing from head to toe to the interview.

Took about 2 weeks to get hired but didn't get to start work for another month. Paperwork took too long to go through but thankfully was able to start right when my manager called me to let me know I was good to start

Went to an open call and there were about 15 people ahead of me. When it was finally my turn the interviewer asked me several basic questions and said I seemed like a good candidate and that I'd hear from him in about three days. I never heard from him.
