I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Amber Electric (Melbourne) in Dec 2025
Interview
A bit slow, did not believe they knew what they wanted, ultimatelty I think its a business that is changing which is exciting but feels like they have parts of the business lagging behind.
Interviews were good. HR round seemed as expected - basic and to the point. Hiring manager interview was excellent and so was the subsequent panel interview.
Finally the co-founder interview felt strange. Rather than assessing culture and fit, I was asked to "sell" the technology all over again and somehow convince the co-founder why my ideas were well founded. It was odd considering that the job post mentioned that the co-founder round was more a signing off on culture fit.
The bigger issue was that the team despite having completed all the interview rounds, just kept me hanging on with excuses about people not coming back to work post holidays. They dragged the process to nearly 3 months.
Towards the end, they removed the job post from the website and probably signed with another candidate while telling me they were still waiting for people to come back to the office.
All in all, very good start to the interview process but extremely poor finish and follow up.
To make it worse, the reason they gave me for moving with another candidate was vague and impractical.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
How I would approach selling Amber's technology to a potential client.
First step – A one-hour Q&A session with short, direct answers expected. The interviewer mainly asked about my experience level with various tools and technologies.
Second step – A straightforward coding challenge involving hourly electricity readings. I completed the task successfully, and they commented that my work was very good.
However, the feedback for rejection felt vague and unhelpful. They mentioned the absence of a .git folder in my submission, even though it could have easily been requested if needed. I assumed we would review my commits in a later stage, but that never happened. This left the impression that the reason for declining was unrelated to my actual performance—possibly due to finding another candidate through referral.

Question 1
The interviewer repeatedly asked about my experience level with various tools and technologies, moving quickly from one tool to the next.
