      Engineer II (Tech Transfer) Interview

      19 Dec 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Huntington, WV
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Alcon (Huntington, WV) in Sept 2019

      Interview

Applied online. Recieved an email directly from the hiring manager to schedule phone interview. Phone interview(30 min)- Two of the skills manager was most interested in: Validation(IQ,OQ,PQ) and equipment troubleshooting. Asked questions based on experience with validation and some basic interview questions tell about yourself. And he said he wanted someone who can join immediately. Next day I wrote a follow email. I recieved an email from HR for onsite interview and arrangement for flight tickets and hotel. Scheduled for onsite interview 2 weeks later. Started with a plant tour (30- 40 min) and IOL manufacturing facility. Onsite interview: 3 panel interviews, 1 hour each. First with Site Engineering Head and HR(arranged for onsite interview). Second with senior quality engineer, operation manager and facility engineer. Third with direct manager and his boss. Each of them had paper forms with a list of questions with same pattern (mainly behavioural) with specific topics. I remember a couple of those were Tech savy, customer service etc. Pattern of questions for each of them was: Tell about the situation? What did you do? What was the outcome? Was there alternative solution? Did you use same skill/ technique another time? They took notes on same paper. Asked few other general question in when interview questions felt boring or when I got a bit nervous. Had lunch with hiring manager and a manager from another department. Enjoyed the conversation. Hiring manager seemed to be interested and bringing me in to join his team. Was told by him to expect feedback after they interview another candidate. Followed-up after 3 weeks. Hiring manager said other candidate is selected since he had more experience in troubleshooting and more advanced skillset. But I believe that the first interview was the main reason I was rejected. I was not comfortable and the engineering head made sure I remained nervous throughout. Other two interviews were pretty good.
