Chronology: I applied for a data scientist position on line and was contacted by a Recruiter for a short interview followed by a technical interview with a data scientist. This was followed by another interview with the recruiter and then a day long interview with other data scientists and software engineers followed by an offer the following week. From start to finish the process took about 3-4 weeks. Pluses: The recruiter who guided me through the process was extremely candid and upfront. In fact, this feature pervades the company as a whole. For example, upon hearing the coding requirements, I expressed concern that it may not be such a good fit. The recruiter listened to this carefully (this often is not the case with recruiters), told me he would express my concerns to the hiring manager, and returned within a day to tell me that they were still interested. The upfront communication and quick feedback is a key aspect of this company and it is something the employees hold themselves to (it is not just a banner or jargon they throw around). This kind of clarity is paired with a friendliness and made the entire process extremely smooth. Minuses: The only minus was a scheduled phone interview which didn't happen. It was rescheduled for a later date. Overall: The key feature that got me was this combination of no-nonsense candor moderated by friendliness. This is a difficult balance to achieve, and Affirm achieves this not only in its onboarding process but also in its work environment.
