What is the retirement plan like at Yahoo?
Pros
- Exceptional engineering talent: I worked with some of the brightest and most professional people I have ever met - Great educational and advancement opportunities for new grads (Engineering Associates Program, Design Associates Program, etc) - EXCELLENT benefits, which is to say, very competitive benefits in Silicon Valley (free meals, gym, on-site health and wellness center, great insurance, 401k matching, etc) - Generous PTO policy: 15 -> 20 PTO days after 3 years, 6 floating holidays (you get them immediately at the beginning of the year, no slow accrual), unlimited sick days
Cons
- Retention: the company struggles with retaining this aforementioned talent - Since the Verizon acquisition, corporate leadership feels fairly distant, and mostly interested in the sales side of the company - Varying levels of quality and leadership across different divisions of the company
Advice to Management
Pick a few areas where the company either has traction or is actually dominant, even if they aren't huge money makers (e.g., Fantasy Sports) and invest heavily in them, while continuing to prune efforts that just aren't working. Also, instill a culture of transparency, where employees are not afraid to report mistakes (particularly security-related ones)!

Good benefits, great teammates, interesting projects, nice offices
Cons
Team had too many levels of management, lacked foresight and strategic planning ability, meaning work was often thrown out when strategy changed half-way through a project. Such a big company that employees are treated like cogs in a wheel designed to earn the company money, rather than individuals with career goals of their own.

The wide range of products offers a great career development if you are interested in learning about programmatic, search, content marketing you have it all in one place. It's easy to move jobs internally and keep learning new skills. Great benefits, learning development, work-life balance.
Cons
As with any corporate business there are strict legal rules and processes to follow, this can slow down the short term business wins.
