How are the career development opportunities at Transport for NSW?

Pros

Great career opportunities, good to work for a company that has a great mission and working with passionate people

Cons

It's still government and your life will be ruled by policies and briefing notes. There is a desire to change that which is obvious, but it's still a very risk adverse environment which is taken too far and doesn't support innovation. Still too slow to deal with the leaders who are toxic bullies until a bit too much damage has been done.

Advice to Management

Try to see how much can be stripped out on everything having a briefing note would help productivity no end. Question every policy - is it making life easier for people? was it put in because of one incident? Act fast on the bullies, stop waiting until whole teams are destroyed - it's not doing great things for your employer brand - at the very least care about that

How is management perceived at Transport for NSW?

Pros

You get paid. Sometimes you get to achieve something good.

Cons

It is government, so expect a lot of politics and red tape. It is large and often change (good or bad) always comes from the top down. If you have a great idea or want to improve culture and hope it bubbles up to the top and across the organisation, then you're very naive. Everything is very top down driven and most advice to the executive team at the top is via confidential white papers produced by top management companies who have no idea how the people below actually operate. You can figure out the outcome yourself.
