I worked at Coates Hire full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

Excellent exposure to multiple aspects of a high functioning business. Great starting point for a first full-time role. Capacity to build relationships with stakeholders on all levels (Managers..., Tradesmen, Admin, Sales, Truck Drivers, suppliers, ETC) If you have a good Branch Manager with strong branch processes you will enjoy 90% of your time at work. Company is a market leader with a strong value proposition that is easy to pass on to customers. Regular Pay rises and good salary. A genuine focus on initial training.

Cons

Old school mentality, boys club and legacy positions are very real - if you're a young up and comer in the business be prepared to be overlooked and see regular mid-tier management level types... coasting through the day getting by on mediocrity. You will work 7am - 5pm every day more than likely, regardless of what your wordy contract says. You do live in fear of making genuine, reasonable and authentic human mistakes without upper management backing you, given the intense zero harm mindset of the business.

Advice to Management

Be brave enough to make changes. Reward employees based on performance and hold those accountable who take advantage of their privilege in the business and are satisfied with mediocre results when... opportunity is everpresent
