Early 30s, unemployed, trying to restart in financial crime/AML - any chance? Trying to figure out whether I have a realistic chance at breaking into the financial crime/AML space. Some background: I have criminal justice and accounting degrees and my past work experiences include tax consulting and compliance, and as a bank teller. Going into financial crime/AML was always my interest but unfortunately, I executed my career plans poorly. Is early 30s too late to restart in this space? TIA

This is probably a recession indicator, but my husband (not on the ‘bowl) has an in-house gig, copy, 18 hours/month at $120/hour. Not a huge sum. But they don’t pay on time, for the second month in a row. 35 days after delivery - nothing. It’s driving us crazy. He’s spoken to the lead client and they say the accountant is “working on it”. He’s been out of work for awhile so this money matters, and it’s insane to me that you can take someone’s time and not pay them on time. That’s all, folks!

Does anyone think the "Golden Age" of finance/Wall Street firms has passed? I'm talking about between the years say 1960s-early 1990s. My uncle once worked at Lehman Brothers from the 1970s to the early 2000s and was a renowned investment banker. The partner's 33rd floor dining room was elegant with sterling silver table settings, beef Wellington, fresh flowers, and white linen napkins. That world may be long gone, but can anyone in the know comment if you worked on WS back in the 1980s?

Hi. I’ve recently started at a fairly large company in practice which has an accounting team. The work is really interesting but I can’t deal with the timesheets. Having to account for every minute of the day, and being questioned if we have breaks and such.. it’s just not what I expected. It’s giving me anxiety. I understand I’d get this in almost every large accounting company, but I’m thinking about moving to industry.. does anyone know where I’d start? Anyone else made this move?

Hello everyone, I’m seeking part-time opportunities that align with my career interest in finance and investment research. My availability is: Fridays and Saturdays (full-day availability) Occasionally Sundays or Mondays if required Remote-friendly (Cuz I'm in Seoul) Has anyone here come across opportunities like this, or can recommend platforms/companies that are open to part-time finance or research interns with this schedule? Thank you in advance for your advice!

Wife and I just had the annual review with our financial planner. 2025 was a good year, but looking to benchmark that we are getting enough value out of the cost for their services. Across all of our accounts they manage $1.3M (across both tax advantaged and taxable). Realized 23.1% return (Jan-Dec). What was everyone’s ROI this year? And are you self directed or professionally managed?

I’m officially burnt out, and the money isn't even touching the sides anymore. I’m making enough to live comfortably, but I’m working 70-hour weeks that leave me with zero time to actually enjoy the life I’m paying for. I’ve started looking at roles with 20% less pay but significantly more free time, and it feels like a total luxury. Is this a common phase in a finance career?

How do you decide when it’s time to pivot out of finance entirely? I’ve been in the field for almost a decade, and lately I’m struggling to care about the numbers. I’m not miserable, but I’m not lit up either. Been toying with the idea of switching to operations or even nonprofit work. What helped you know when it was time to make a change?

Corporate FP&A world here… Annual review coming up in the next few weeks (Calendar Q4 starts our FY) Looking to create some steps for a Financial Analyst 1 (fresh grad in the role for about 18 months) to promote to FA 2 a year from now. What are some skills and measurable you’d like to see in the next year from this perspective?
