How do you pick projects/decide what practices to focus on? I'm starting soon as a Consultant and I'm trying to figure out what to do. People have suggested finding a lane/niche early and staying there, is this the play? Not sure I want to stay at the firm long, but (a) I'd like to stay long enough that I don't have to be unemployed in a few years and (b) I'm concerned about not being able to get staffed. (C) how early should you start worrying about exits?
Is the “bar to pass” the same for all candidates recruiting for the same role at MBB? Eg, if an experienced hire in consulting, MBA grad, and experienced hire from industry are all applying for the same Consultant role, would there be a higher expectations for the experienced hire in consulting?
Starting at MBB soon and wondering: would I ever find myself able to take ~2 weeks off for surgery and recovery sometime later during my first year, or is that just not realistic in this line of work?
Not MBB, but anyone interview with OW and have comparison of difficulty? McK is the only MBB I’ve interviewed with, so not sure where differences lie besides interviewer vs. candidate-led
If you left MBB as an SM, EM, PL, etc; and then had to take an unexpected multi-year career break, how would you position yourself coming back? Would you look to down-level in a more relaxed setting? I have offers as an EM, but am nervous about the consulting grind and leading teams right away. Pro of 'relaxed' is I'll have time to catch up on all the 'AI-things' and relearn basic skills. I'm also significantly older than typical cohort given break/life stuff, so worried how it may be perceived
Might be very few data points on this one OP. My guess is that as always it varies and may be negotiable, depending on what you’re bringing to the table. I’d say an appropriate range could be anywhere from 30-50k at that level, potentially more. For reference, UGs and MBAs entering MBB may receive anywhere from 5-35k, including lateral hires.
lol may god prevent you from doing estimation work… if MBA gets 35k then partner should get a bonus at least in the 150k-200k range. That said, they’re a lot more unique and valuable as revenue generators, so I’d expect much higher guarantees. They might not even get traditional singing checks, but guaranteed year-end bonuses!
Partners can make up to a 60% bonus based off of performance and new business.
Definitely more than this - I came in as an associate and got a 20k signing bonus
Usually depends if you were from a target school / MBA program. Did you come in as a lateral?
Lateral hire here who came in as a PL. Signing bonus offered was 30K, I negotiated to 40K but it was a pain and BCG took a while to confirm because they had to get some approvals. But frankly, I regret joining BCG.
