Additionally, a visual merchandiser will create floor plans for retail space and situates displays in an ideal position to encourage sales. They use marketing strategy and a creative approach to sales in order to promote the company's image visually.

A high school diploma or equivalent degree is necessary to become a visual merchandiser. Many employers prefer advanced degrees in fashion, graphic design or a business-related field. Training within the company is generally required in order to fully understand the brand's image and message to be marketed. Individuals with experience in marketing strategy and a keen eye for design tend to excel in the position of visual merchandiser.
